🛠️Weekend Wisdom: Overaccepting Binary Thinking
Welcome to this week's Weekend Wisdom, where I distill key insights from the week's explorations and provide practical ways to incorporate them into daily life.
This Week's Theme: Beyond Binary Thinking
This week, we explored moving beyond binary thinking through multiple perspectives:
Monday: Overaccepting Dominative Christianism
Examined Binary Apocalypticism and "overaccepting" as a transformative response that acknowledges value while creating space for conversation.
Tuesday: From Processed to Whole
Shared my journey from "processed" versions of myself toward wholeness, illustrating how personal integration transcends the false choice between performance and authenticity.
Wednesday: Justice at the Intersection
Explored justice as the intersection of love, power, and mercy—defying simplistic either/or frameworks
Thursday: America Was Already Here
Challenged the binary of "America began with European settlement" by recovering indigenous presence and influence. Available on audio, also.
Friday: Official Proclamation - Truth Classification
Used satire to expose how binary thinking leads to rigid classification systems that undermine truth. Best if you view the text and listen to the audio.
Weekend Offerings:
Practicing Participatory Freedom: For Adult Readers and Small Groups
Specific techniques for implementing overaccepting in everyday situations
Simply Said - For Our Youth Readers
Straightforward explanation of overaccepting for better conversations
Weekend Homily: "Peace! Be Still" - Finding Courage Amid Fear
Audio Versions Now Available
Thursday and Friday posts now have audio options. Most future posts will include audio versions for listening while driving or exercising.
Looking Ahead: Next Week's Theme
We'll explore how technological changes (oral to written to digital) have transformed theological imagination.
Final Thought
Overaccepting isn't just intellectual—it's a spiritual discipline that helps heal divisions in our common life.
Prayer for Overaccepting
Divine Creator, In a world fractured by either/or thinking, teach us the art of overaccepting. Where we rush to judgment, grant us patience to listen deeply. Where we see only binary choices, open our eyes to third possibilities. Where we build walls of certainty,
give us courage to create doorways. Help us to receive what others offer and add something that brings new life, just as you receive our brokenness and transform it with your grace. May we dance with difference rather than defend against it, following the example of Jesus who refused the traps of binary thinking and created paths toward wholeness. Amen.
Until next week, Craig
